Cooltube Grow Light

The Cooltube is an air-tight, fully sealed clear glass tube with a lamp mounting bracket in its centre. It's perfect for removing the excess heat generated by HID grow lights without leaking unpleasant odours; as far as we know it's the only fully sealed system on the market (other manufacturers claims that theirs are but in our experience they are definitely not).

Air is usually pulled (but can be pushed) over the lamp by adding an extractor fan to one side of the tube, the hot vented air is then expelled away from the growroom and plants. They're very effective, somewhere in the region of 70-80% of heat is removed, and are therefore very popular with indoor gardeners who have limited space to work with.

There are two diameters of glass tube available, 125mm and 150mm. The 125mm diameter is suitable for use with the 250W and 400W versions, the 150mm diameter is suitable for use with the 600W and 1000W versions. There are several other products you may need to purchase if you don't have them already, we've listed them below to make it as simple as possible for you to get everything you need. If you wish to see further details on any of these items just click on thier pictures in the related products section. Please note that the 1000W ballast comes with an IEC connector that will need to be fitted to the reflector cable.

**Please retain original packaging for your lamps to validate the 12 month warranty**

Frequently asked questions

Q: I have read that the Compact gets very hot when it's on, is it safe and why does this happen?
The Compact ballast from Maxigrow is by far the most reliable ballast on the market. In the 3 years we've been selling them we've only had a handful of returns. You may have noticed that we only sell two brands of lighting, Powerplant and Maxigrow, the reason we do this is that in our opinion these are currently the most reliable brands on the market. With regards to the heat question, the answer is that they designed to run hot, and are entirely safe. The internal workings of the ballast are potted in resin to eliminate operating noise (these ballasts are 100% silent in operation), the outer black casing material is widely used in the petroleum industry as a heat dissipation material; it pulls the heat away from the inner workings of the ballast and results in a long life ballast that will give you years of trouble free use.
Q: How many of these lights can I run in a row?

That mostly depends on the wattage of each light, but here are some rough guidlines:-

1-2 x 250W/400W lights use a Ruck 125mm Low Powered Fan
3-4 x 250W/400W lights use a Ruck 125mm High Powered Fan
1-2 x 600W/1000W lights use a Ruck 150mm Low Powered Fan
3-4 x 600W/1000W lights use a Ruck 150mm High Powered Fan

These are guidlines only, there are many variables including the length of your duting (the longer this is the less overall air gets moved), the type and age of carbon filter if used and intake air flow. If your still not sure what you will need, give us a call and we'll talk you through it on the phone.

Q: Can I use Acoustic Ducting with these reflectors?
Yes you can but it's pretty fiddly to set up, increases the risk of smells leaking out and makes it more difficult to move the reflector up and down. A better option would be to use a silencer on the intake side of your fan.
