SuperNova Grow Light

Almost a household name, the Supernova has been around for years and continues to be amongst the best selling reflectors in the grow lighting market today. Nearly every grow lighting manufacturer produces a reflector based on the general shape and design of the Supernova, which goes to show how durable and effective the design of this reflector is.

Whilst it lacks the even spread of light and heat achieved by the more advanced design of the Diamond reflector, when used correctly it is still one of the best reflectors for putting large amounts of light onto plants positioned directly beneath the reflector. The downside is that it can also put down quite a lot of heat into the same area; however, with the right environmental controls and correct spacing between reflectors this grow light will outperform almost all other reflectors in its class.

Supplied with the excellent Maxigrow Compact ballast as standard, choice of lamps listed below. Please note that the 1000W ballast comes with an IEC connector that will need to be fitted to the reflector cable.

**Please retain original packaging for your lamps to validate the 12 month warranty**

Frequently asked questions

Q: I have read that the Compact gets very hot when it's on, is it safe and why does this happen?
The Compact ballast from Maxigrow is by far the most reliable ballast on the market. In the 3 years we've been selling them we've only had a handful of returns. You may have noticed that we only sell two brands of lighting, Powerplant and Maxigrow, the reason we do this is that in our opinion these are currently the most reliable brands on the market. With regards to the heat question, the answer is that they designed to run hot, and are entirely safe. The internal workings of the ballast are potted in resin to eliminate operating noise (these ballasts are 100% silent in operation), the outer black casing material is widely used in the petroleum industry as a heat dissipation material; it pulls the heat away from the inner workings of the ballast and results in a long life ballast that will give you years of trouble free use.
Q: Why don't you sell this light in 250W and 400W versions of the Supernova?
We were advised by the manufacturer that the reflector was designed primarily for use with 600W and 1000W lamps, the smaller lamps tend to get "lost" within the reflector and are likely to produce poor results.
Q: How does this light compare to a Diamond?
As we have said in the description, it puts down more light and heat into the area directly beneath the reflector than a Diamond, the Diamond tends to spread the light and heat over a wider area. If you are really looking to slam allot of light into a small area then a few Supernovas can do a very good job of this, just beware of the heat issue, many customers have talked about there being a "hotspot" directly under the lamp itself.
Q: I've seen an air-cooled version of the Supernova grow light advertised, do you sell them?

There are in fact several different types of air-cooled supernovas available, but none of them are air-tight and they all leak a bit of smell past the carbon filter. Unfortunately the manufacturer did tell us this would happen, and we had several customers complaining about it so we decided not to sell them anymore. If you want to use an air-cooled grow light, use a Cooltube, they are fully sealed and are now cheaper than ever before.
