Next to lighting and air circulation, a growing system is the most important contributor to the success of your grow room. When weighing up a purchase things to consider are: Space - how large is your growing area and what type of plants are you planning to grow; Watering - should the system be automated (on a timer) or are you happy to feed your plants manually; and Cost – generally speaking the more you pay, the greater yield...
you can expect (mostly because of the size of the system). However it is possible to put a very effective system in place for comparatively low cost. Green’s stock a diverse range of Hydroponic Systems. The popular Atami Wilma is a Drip-fed recirculating system that offers the impressive growth rates of active Hydroponics along with the benefits of growing in pots. You can also add and take away pots as desired within the confines of your...
chosen setup. The active Hydro ensures a ready supply of nutrients is regularly washed through the root system. The Aquafarm and Waterfarm are other examples of drip-fed recirculating systems that deliver a regular supply of oxygen-enriched nutrients over a clay substrate to the root zone. They are very versatile and can be placed in any environment; office, school or home. Other types of system include the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT)...
which does not require any substrate but feeds the nutrient solution directly to the root zone. Plants grown in this environment have unlimited access to oxygen and generally experience far more rapid growth. In a well-regulated growing room, using NFT, your plants will practically grow in front of your very eyes! However NFT is an advanced growing technique, so not ideal for beginners. Flood & Drain as with NFT is a closed recirculating...
system in which the nutrient is constantly recycled. We stock the modular IWS system. With IWS, a series of pots are connected to a main tank that fills and drains the pots of nutrient solution at specified intervals. This is a more expensive system, but very effective. Autopots is also a pot based automated system, but is a non-recirculating (Passive) system. The nutrient solution is fed to the base of the pot via a gravity operated valve.
From there the nutrient solution is naturally absorbed by the root zone. The plant will only receive more nutrient solution once this has been absorbed, so there is absolutely no wastage and no reliance on timers, mains water or power. The Autopot/Easy2grow system is also easily expandable, but as we only recommend Autopots for use with soil it is by definition not a hydroponic system. Finally, we have Amazon systems, which uses...
Aeroponics. The exposed roots of the plant are suspended in air and spray with a fine mist of nutrient at timed intervals. The lack of a substrate means that plants are not exposed to as many pests & disease.Of all our growing systems, Autopots/Easy2grow is an affordable and low maintenance irrigation system and an excellent way of ensuring a regular and steady supply of nutrients to your plants at a natural rate.
The system relies on simple gravity pressure from a tank or waterbutt and a regulator to ensure plants are never overwatered. The lack of timer and pump keeps the cost down and the system is infinitely expandable. An Autopot system will not provide the same level of rapid growth as our other Hydroponics systems, but it does mean that you can kiss goodbye to regular pH & EC level tests.
Autopots are suitable for a variety of environs; greenhouse, polytunnel or grow tent.
