With IWS, a series of pots are connected to a main tank that fills and drains the pots of nutrient solution at specified intervals. This is a more expensive system, but very effective. Autopots is also a pot based automated system, but is a non-recirculating (Passive) system. The nutrient solution is fed to the base of the pot via a gravity operated valve.
- From there the nutrient solution is naturally absorbed by the root zone. The plant will only receive more nutrient solution once this has been absorbed, so there is absolutely no wastage and no reliance on timers, mains water or power. - The system relies on simple gravity pressure from a tank or waterbutt and a regulator to ensure plants are never overwatered.
