Growing orchids is a fast growing hobby for people around the world who enjoy the satisfaction of being able to watch some of the world’s rarest and most beautiful flowers come to life in their own homes. In this section we include everything you need to begin your own journey into the world of these exotic flowers including specific orchid food – an essential as most general nutrients will contain far too much ammonia and urea. Instead we offer a crop specific, two-part feed that is recommended by professional orchid farmers and contains high levels of nitrogen in the ‘grow’ formulation while the ‘bloom’ feed contains additional phosphorus and potassium for heavy flowering.
Care of Orchids
As well as food, we also supply a specific growing medium for orchids in the form of Orchid Focus Medium, which has been designed to offer the optimum air/water ratio for the majority of popular orchids and hybrids. The blending of graded bark with coco coir and aggrofoam allows for fast draining and the full instructions for re-potting are supplied. Almost all species of orchis – including the most commonly grown Phalaenopsis, Cymbidium,Paphiopedilum, Dendrobium and Cattleya will benefit from a regular feeding schedule and can be foliar fed or fed through the roots. We stock a variety of Seramis products to facilitate this including their substrate, which is made from pure clay mined in Germany and is ideal for both drip feed systems as well as passive hydroponics, as well as watering indicators to show you when your pots need topping up.
